When Susan Dargie developed acute altitude sickness whilst trekking in the Himalayas, she was lucky to make it to a village in the mountains with a small medical centre. When travelling to remote places around the world, this may not always be the case.

With her new groundbreaking Mini First Aid Adventurer course, Susan wants to make sure young people both embrace and prepare themselves fully for their adventures ahead and do not rely on luck alone.

Susan says:

“My children cannot believe some of my travelling tales. I am so grateful for the opportunities I had when I was younger. My experiences have helped shape my view of the world and given me a tiny insight into living in a different culture to my own. I would have loved to do an Adventurer course before I went travelling. It would have helped me feel more confident in dealing with emergency situations and also encouraged me to think beforehand about what might happen during adventurous travel.”

Susan is keen to emphasise that the Mini First Aid Adventurer course is designed to empower young people and not to scare them. She says:

“The topics we cover are real situations that you may have to deal with. My aim is not to scare young people but to equip them with the first aid skills they may need and to make them feel more confident should an accident or emergency happen.”

Adventurer First Aid is a fun and interactive practical course, designed to fully prepare young people for adventure travel and give them the skills and confidence they need should extreme injuries and accidents occur.

The 6-hour course focuses on key skills for adventure travel and includes emergency first aid medicine, ‘global awareness’ training as well as survival and rescue techniques.
